Of the 1,701 colocation operators in viabandwidth, 151 are verified direct operators with independently confirmed own infrastructure. Another 1,313 are carrier-neutral operators identified through PeeringDB, where the operator does not own or favour a specific transit network. These two classes are the procurement-grade core of the directory; the remainder are operators where the operator-type signal is still being built up.
The distinction matters because the procurement risk profile of a verified direct operator is fundamentally different from a reseller that does not run the building. When a power event happens, the question is whose engineer is in the building. The verified direct operator pool is the answer to that question.

Colocation capacity is highly geographically concentrated. The ten countries with the largest operator populations account for the majority of the directory, with the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, and the United Kingdom leading. Each of these markets has at least one country-level hub on viabandwidth so a buyer can shortlist locally.

Certification footprint
Procurement teams ask about certifications more than any other operator attribute. The directory carries 13 certification hubs across the most-requested frameworks. SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are the most common asks; Uptime Tier III is the most common availability marker. PCI DSS and HIPAA are workload-specific and matter when regulated data is involved.

The market looks consolidated because the largest operators have global brand presence and dominate procurement conversations among multinationals. For a buyer with a specific country or metro requirement, the operator footprint is much wider than the global shortlist suggests. Regional operators frequently deliver better latency to local markets, more responsive NOC support, and pricing structures that scale better for mid-sized commitments. The directory's long tail of verified operators is built specifically so a regional shortlist is possible without starting from scratch.
How to use the directory
The recommended procurement workflow is to start at the country hub for the geography that matters, cross-filter on the certification hubs that match the workload, look at the operator profile for the operator-type signal and the network presence, and unlock the operator dossier for shortlisted operators to get the verified contact route. The reveal is one credit per operator. Procurement-grade contact data is the line item the directory exists to verify; everything else is structured public information.
What the directory does not cover
Pricing is not surfaced publicly. Colocation pricing is negotiated and list prices are rarely meaningful; the unit cost depends on rack count, power commit, term length, cross-connect volume, and remote-hands intensity. The operator dossier includes the contact route to request a quote directly. Workload-specific architecture and design services are also out of scope; the directory is a procurement-grade operator index, not a design consultancy.
